Abstract

Kent ve yoksulluk odağında toplumsal cinsiyet, kentsel mekânın yapısal konjoktörünü ve yoksulluk deneyimini toplumsal cinsiyet bakış açısından ele alınmaktadır. Bu alanda yapılmış olan çalışmalar, kentleşmenin, yoksulluğun ve toplumsal cinsiyetin nasıl birbirini şekillendirdiği, kadınların ve diğer cinsiyet gruplarının kentsel yoksullukla nasıl etkileşimde bulunduğunu analiz edilmesi amaçlanmaktadır. Bu bağlamda kentleşme, toplumsal yapıyı dönüştüren en önemli aşamadır ve bu aşamada toplumsal cinsiyet ilişkileri de farklı dinamiklerle ele alınmaktadır. Kentleşme aşaması, yoksulluk dinamiklerini ve toplumsal cinsiyetin kesişimini ve kentlerdeki meydana gelen eşitsizlikleri anlamak için kritik bir perspektiften sunulmuştur. Bu bağlamda, toplumsal cinsiyet, kadınların ve erkeklerin toplum içindeki rollerini, sorumluluklarını, güç ilişkilerini, fırsatlarını belirleyen bir kavram olarak, yoksulluk ve kentleşme süreçlerinde kritik bir öneme sahiptir. Kentleşmenin yalnızca fiziksel bir dönüşüm olmadığını, aynı zamanda toplumsal ilişkilerin, ekonomik yapının ve kültürel kodların yeniden üretildiği bir süreç olduğu vurgulanmakta; bu dönüşümde toplumsal cinsiyetin belirleyici bir rol oynadığı belirtilmektedir. Özellikle kadınlar, hem özel alanda hem de kamusal alanda eşitsizliklere maruz kalmakta; ev içi sorumluluklar, güvencesiz istihdam, şiddet ve mekânsal dışlanma gibi birçok sorunu aynı anda yaşamaktadırlar. Çalışmada, "yoksulluğun kadınlaşması" kavramı çerçevesinde, yoksulluğun kadınlar üzerindeki etkilerini tartışmakta; kadınların düşük ücretli, güvencesiz işlerde çalışmak zorunda kalmaları, ev içi emeğin görünmezliği gibi faktörlerin bu süreci derinleştirdiğini ortaya koymaktadır. Döküm analizine dayalı nitel araştırma yöntemiyle oluşturulan bu çalışma kentleşme süreçlerinin ve yoksulluğun toplumsal cinsiyetle olan ilişkisini derinlemesine anlayabilmek daha önce yapılmış akademik çalışmaların yer aldığı dokümanlar incelenecektir. Bu dokümanlar, kent ve yoksulluk ekseninde toplumsal cinsiyet boyutunu anlamaya yardımcı olacaktır. Sonuç olarak kent ve yoksulluk odağında toplumsal cinsiyet, hem teorik yönü hem de pratik yönü önemli bir alandır. Kentsel yoksulluk, toplumsal cinsiyetin etkisiyle oldukça karmaşık hale gelmekte olup ve kadınlar, erkeklere göre bu eşitsizliklerden daha fazla etkilenmektedir. Nitekim toplumsal cinsiyet bakış açısı, kentsel mekânın ve yoksulluğun daha adil bir şekilde dönüştürülmesi adına güçlü bir araç olabilir.

Gender in the Focus of the City and Poverty

Abstract

Focusing on urban and poverty, gender, the structural conjuncture of urban space and the experience of poverty are discussed from a gender perspective. Studies in this field aim to analyze how urbanization, poverty, and gender shape each other and how women and other gender groups interact with urban poverty. In this way, urbanization is the most important stage that transforms the social structure and gender relations are also addressed with different dynamics at this stage. The urbanization phase is presented from a critical perspective to understand the dynamics of poverty and the intersection of gender and inequalities occurring in cities. In this context, gender, as a concept that determines the roles, responsibilities, power relations and opportunities of women and men in society, has a critical importance in the processes of poverty and urbanization. It is emphasized that urbanization is not only a physical transformation but also a process through which social relations, economic structures, and cultural codes are reproduced; gender plays a decisive role in this transformation. Women, in particular, are exposed to inequalities in both the private and public spheres, experiencing numerous problems simultaneously, such as domestic responsibilities, precarious employment, violence, and spatial exclusion. The study discusses the impact of poverty on women within the framework of the concept of "feminization of poverty." It reveals that factors such as women's forced employment in low-wage, precarious jobs and the invisibility of domestic labor exacerbate this process. This study, which was created with a qualitative research method based on cast analysis, will examine documents containing previous academic studies in order to deeply understand the relationship between urbanization processes and poverty with gender. These documents will help understand the gender dimension in the context of urban and poverty. Consequently, gender is an important area in both theoretical and practical terms when focusing on urbanization and poverty. Urban poverty is significantly complex due to the influence of gender, and women are more affected by these inequalities than men. Indeed, a gender perspective can be a powerful tool for transforming urban space and poverty in a more equitable way.
