A great number translations and sharhs have been made on Persian work named Gülistân since the time it was written by famous Persian poet Saʻdî-i Şirazî in the 13th century. Also, numerous Turkish sharhs have been written on this work which inspired Classical Turkish Literature poets. These sharhs, which were the main sources of Persian language and literatüre were taught in the Ottoman madrasas. The subject of our study is Bustan-Efruzı Cinan Der-Şerh-i Gulistan, which was one of the Turkish sharhs. The work was written by Kefeli Hüseyin Efendi. One of the scholar figures of the 16th century, Kefeli Hüseyin Efendi learned Arabic and Persian with their literatures; he also was very competent on hadith, tafsir, fiqh and other religious sciences alongside mathematics, astronomy and music. Bustân-Efrûz-ı Cinân Der-Şerh-i Gülistân, which reflects the sophisticated personality and knowledge of Kefeli Hüseyin Efendi, was written aiming to complete the deficiencies of the previous sharhs. Grammatical features, vocabulary and literary information of the work were emphasized on this sharh which was written by sticking to the traditional sharh concept of Classical Turkish Literature, after giving its Turkish translation. The aim of our study is to introduce Bustan-Efruz-ı Cinan Der-Şerh-i Gulistan and to reveal the sharh techniques in general terms, by referring to the life and the works of Kefeli Hüseyin Efendi.
