Abstract

Purpose: Sedentary lifestyle has become a widespread problem in modern society, which may have negative effects on muscle strength and anthropometric parameters. Pilates can play an important role in reducing these negative effects by increasing muscle strength and improving body composition. Therefore, the aim of this study was to investigate the effects of 8 weeks of Pilates exercises on body weight, flexibility, balance, muscular endurance and functional movement assessment performance in sedentary female. Material and Methods: Twenty-five sedentary female with a mean age of 35.8±2.5 years participated in the study. The participants were tested for body weight, flexibility, balance, functional motion screen, 30 s push-up, 30 s crunch, 30s plank, 30 sec push-up, plank and functional movement imaging parameters before and after 8 weeks of Pilates training. Data were analyzed using SPSS 29 package program. Paired Samples T Test was used to compare two dependent groups for normally distributed data and Wilcoxon Singed Ranks Test was used to compare two dependent groups for non-normally distributed data. Results: As a result of the analysis, statistically significant differences were found between pre-test and post-test in flexibility, balance (right and left), crunches, squat and functional movement imaging values. Conclusion: Pilates training for eight weeks was found to improve flexibility, balance, crunches, squat and functional motion screen values of female participants.
