1. General Principles

Yalova Medical Journal is a peer-reviewed, open-access scientific journal dedicated to the dissemination of original scientific knowledge in the fields of medicine and health sciences.

The journal accepts submissions in the following categories:

• Original Research Articles
• Review Articles
• Case Reports
• Letters to the Editor

All manuscripts submitted to the journal must:

• be original,
• not have been published previously in any language,
• not be under consideration for publication elsewhere, and
• comply with the journal's Publication Ethics and Publication Policy.

For manuscripts with multiple authors, submission implies that all listed authors have approved the final version of the manuscript and consent to its submission. The corresponding author is responsible for ensuring that all co-authors have agreed to the submission and assumes responsibility for communication with the journal throughout the editorial process.

Manuscripts that do not comply with the journal's ethical principles, publication policies, or author guidelines may be rejected during the initial editorial assessment.

The official publication languages of the journal are Turkish and English.

2. Manuscript Submission Requirements

Manuscripts must be prepared using Microsoft Word (.doc or .docx) format and submitted electronically through the DergiPark Journal Management System.

Figures and images should be of high quality and may either be embedded within the manuscript file or uploaded separately as JPEG files with a minimum resolution of 300 dpi, when requested.

Authors are responsible for ensuring that submitted manuscripts:

• have undergone final language and scientific review,
• are complete and publication-ready,
• comply with the journal's formatting requirements.

After submission, substantial revisions to the manuscript will only be accepted if requested by the Editor.

3. Ethics Committee Approval and Research Ethics

Studies involving human participants must have received approval from an appropriate Institutional Review Board (IRB) or Ethics Committee before the study was conducted.

The following information must be clearly stated in the Materials and Methods section:

• name of the Ethics Committee,
• approval date,
• approval number.

The same information should also be included in a separate Ethics Committee Approval statement at the end of the manuscript.

For case reports, written Informed Consent must be obtained from the patient or the patient's legal representative. A statement confirming informed consent must be included in the manuscript.

Studies involving experimental animals must comply with applicable national regulations and the ARRIVE Guidelines, and appropriate ethical approval must be documented.

4. Use of Artificial Intelligence (AI)-Assisted Technologies

Yalova Medical Journal follows the current recommendations of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE), and the relevant guidance issued by the Council of Higher Education of Türkiye regarding the responsible use of artificial intelligence technologies.

AI-assisted tools may be used only for supportive purposes, including:

• language editing,
• grammar and spelling correction,
• improving readability,
• literature searching,
• data organization.

Artificial intelligence systems must not be listed as authors and cannot assume responsibility for the scientific content of a manuscript.

If AI-assisted technologies have been used during manuscript preparation, authors must clearly disclose this in the appropriate section of the manuscript.

Authors remain fully responsible for the accuracy, integrity, originality, and ethical compliance of their work.

5. Similarity (Plagiarism) Policy

All manuscripts submitted to Yalova Medical Journal are screened using plagiarism detection software such as iThenticate, Turnitin, or equivalent similarity-checking tools before peer review.

For Original Research Articles:

• the overall similarity index should not exceed 20%;
• similarity from any single source should generally not exceed 5%.

The Editorial Board reserves the right to reject manuscripts that raise concerns regarding publication ethics, even when the similarity index falls below these thresholds.

Manuscripts containing plagiarism, fabrication, falsification, duplicate publication, inappropriate authorship, or any other form of scientific misconduct will be rejected or, if already published, retracted in accordance with the journal's publication ethics policy.

6. Manuscript Preparation

Manuscripts must be prepared according to the following formatting requirements:

• Microsoft Word (.doc or .docx) format
• Times New Roman font
• 12-point font size for the main text
• 1.5-line spacing
• Fully justified text alignment
• 2.5 cm margins on all sides
• Pages numbered consecutively beginning with the title page
• Page numbers placed at the bottom right corner of each page
• References and figure/table legends should be prepared in 11-point font with single line spacing

7. Types of Manuscripts

Yalova Medical Journal accepts the following manuscript categories:

The stated word limits apply only to the main text and do not include the abstract, references, tables, figure legends, or supplementary materials.

8. Title Page

The Title Page must be submitted as a separate file and contain the following information:

• Full title of the manuscript
• Short running title (maximum 50 characters)
• Full names of all authors
• Institutional affiliations of all authors
• ORCID iDs of all authors
• Corresponding author's name, institutional address, telephone number, and e-mail address
• Funding information (if applicable)
• Conflict of Interest Statement
• Acknowledgements (if applicable)
• Ethics Committee Approval information (if applicable)
• Clinical Trial Registration Number (if applicable)
• Presentation at a scientific meeting or congress (if applicable)

To ensure a double-blind peer review process, the main manuscript file must not contain any information that could reveal the identity of the authors or their institutions.

9. Abstract and Keywords

All Original Research Articles, Review Articles, and Case Reports must include both Turkish and English abstracts.

The abstract should not exceed 250 words and must be structured under the following headings:

• Objective
• Methods
• Results
• Conclusion

=> Review Articles

The abstract should not exceed 350 words and should summarize the purpose, scope, and major conclusions of the review.

=> Case Reports

The abstract should not exceed 250 words and should briefly describe the clinical significance of the case.

Abstracts should not contain references, unexplained abbreviations, tables, or figures.

Following the abstract, authors must provide three to six keywords selected from the Medical Subject Headings (MeSH) database maintained by the U.S. National Library of Medicine.

10. Original Research Articles

Original Research Articles should not exceed 3,500 words excluding the abstract, references, tables, figure legends, and supplementary materials.

The manuscript should be organized as follows:

11. Review Articles

Review Articles should not exceed 5,000 words.

The manuscript should include:

• Title
• Abstract
• Keywords
• Main Text
• References
• Tables (if applicable)
• Figures (if applicable)

Authors are encouraged to prepare review articles in accordance with the PRISMA 2020 Statement when appropriate.

12. Case Reports

Case Reports should not exceed 1,500 words and should have no more than six authors.

The manuscript should include:

• Title
• Abstract
• Keywords
• Introduction
• Case Presentation
• Discussion and Conclusion
• References
• Tables (if applicable)
• Figures (if applicable)

Written informed consent must be obtained from the patient or the patient's legal representative before submission.

A statement confirming informed consent must be included in the manuscript.

Authors are encouraged to prepare case reports according to the CARE Guidelines.

13. Letters to the Editor

Letters to the Editor should not exceed 500 words.

Letters should include:

• Title
• Main Text
• References (if applicable)

Abstracts, tables, and figures are generally not accepted for this manuscript type.

14. Introduction

The Introduction should clearly describe the scientific background of the study, summarize the relevant literature, identify the existing knowledge gap, and state the objective or hypothesis of the study.

The Introduction should be concise and directly related to the research question.

15. Materials and Methods

The Materials and Methods section should provide sufficient detail to enable the study to be reproduced.

Previously published methods should be appropriately cited.

If multiple methods were used, appropriate subheadings should be included.

The following information must be clearly reported where applicable:

• Study design
• Study population
• Inclusion and exclusion criteria
• Sample size
• Data collection procedures
• Laboratory methods
• Statistical analyses
• Ethics Committee Approval
• Clinical Trial Registration (if applicable)

The statistical analysis subsection should specify all statistical methods, software used, confidence intervals where appropriate, and the significance level.

The Editorial Board reserves the right to request statistical review before acceptance.

16. Results

Results should be presented objectively, clearly, and without interpretation.

Data presented in tables or figures should not be unnecessarily repeated in the text.

Statistical findings should include appropriate descriptive statistics and relevant measures of significance.

17. Discussion and Conclusion

The Discussion should interpret the study findings in light of the existing literature.

Authors should address:

• the principal findings,
• strengths of the study,
• limitations,
• clinical implications,
• recommendations for future research.

The final paragraph should clearly summarize the main conclusions of the study without repeating the Results section.

18. Acknowledgements

Individuals who contributed to the study but do not meet the authorship criteria may be acknowledged in this section.

Authors are responsible for obtaining permission from all acknowledged individuals prior to publication.

19. Funding Statement

Any financial support received from institutions, organizations, funding agencies, or research grants during the conduct of the study must be clearly disclosed in this section.

If no financial support was received, the following statement should be included:

"The authors declare that no financial support was received for this study."

20. Author Contributions

Yalova Medical Journal recommends reporting author contributions in accordance with the CRediT (Contributor Roles Taxonomy).

The specific contribution of each author should be clearly stated.

All authors must approve the final version of the manuscript and accept responsibility for its content.

21. Conflict of Interest Statement

Authors are required to disclose any financial or non-financial relationships, affiliations, or activities that could be perceived as influencing the results or interpretation of the study.

If no conflicts of interest exist, the following statement should be included:

"The authors declare that they have no conflict of interest."

Editors and reviewers are likewise expected to disclose any conflicts of interest that may affect the impartiality of the editorial or peer-review process.

22. Data Availability Statement

Authors should provide a Data Availability Statement describing the accessibility of the data supporting the findings of the study.

If the data are publicly available, the name of the repository and the corresponding access link or identifier should be provided.

If the data cannot be shared, the reason for the restriction should be clearly stated.

23. Clinical Trial Registration

Prospective clinical trials and other applicable interventional studies should be registered in a publicly accessible clinical trial registry before participant enrollment.

The registration number and the name of the registry should be reported in the Materials and Methods section of the manuscript.

24. References

Yalova Medical Journal follows the ICMJE Recommendations and uses the Vancouver referencing style.

References should be numbered consecutively according to the order in which they are first cited in the text.

The reference list should be prepared using:

• 11-point font,
• single line spacing,
• numerical order.

Unpublished manuscripts, manuscripts under review, personal communications, and unpublished observations should not be included in the reference list.

25. Tables and Figures

Tables and figures should be numbered consecutively in the order in which they are first mentioned in the text.

Each table and figure must have a concise and informative title.

Abbreviations used in tables should be explained in footnotes.

Figures should be prepared in high quality and, when requested, submitted as JPEG files with a minimum resolution of 300 dpi.

Figure legends should be prepared separately from the main text.

If previously published tables or figures are reproduced or adapted, authors must obtain the necessary copyright permissions before submission.

26. Abbreviations and Units

Abbreviations should be defined at their first occurrence in the text and used consistently thereafter.

Measurements and laboratory values should be reported using the International System of Units (SI).

Internationally accepted standard units should be used for all laboratory parameters.

27. Submission Checklist

Before submitting a manuscript, authors should ensure that:
