Opinions of students in the undergraduate program of arts and crafts education on the profession

Abstract

As a result of observations and the informal interviews made with the students in the undergraduate program of Arts and Crafts Education, it was observed that the students had anxiety and concerns about their profession, and they tended to practice different professions after graduation. After informal interviews, observations, and the examination of teacher appointment statistics, it was felt that it was necessary to determine, explain and examine the view-points of teacher candidates on the Art Teaching profession based on scientific foundations. In this study, it is aimed to investigate and examine the factors that affect the thoughts and perspectives of the students in the undergraduate program of Arts and Crafts Education towards performing their profession. This study is rather important in terms of fulfilling the need and lack of studies in the literature, identifying the situation, and the need for a detailed analysis. This research was designed as an internal case study, one of the qualitative research methods. As a result of the analysis conducted using Nvivo 12, a qualitative data analysis program, results were presented and commented on with respect to the themes and codes obtained. When the obtained data was examined, it was observed that environmental factors, opinions on the profession as well as concerns regarding appointments and exams were influential in their confusion about practicing their profession after graduation.

Resim- i̇ş öğretmenliği lisans programı öğrencilerinin mesleğe i̇lişkin görüşleri

Öz

Resim-İş Öğretmenliği lisans programı öğrencileriyle gerçekleştirilen informal görüşmeler ve gözlemler neticesinde öğrencilerin mesleklerine ilişkin kaygı ve endişelerinin olduğu, mezuniyet sonrası farklı meslek dallarını icra etmeye yöneldikleri görülmüştür. İnformal görüşmeler, gözlemler ve öğretmen atama istatistiklerinin incelenmesi sonrasında öğretmen adaylarının Resim-İş Öğretmenliği mesleğine bakış açılarının bilimsel temeller üzerine oturtularak saptanması, açıklanması ve incelenmesi gerekliliği hissedilmiştir. Bu çalışma ile Resim-İş Öğretmenliği lisans programı öğrencilerinin mesleklerini icra etmeye yönelik düşüncelerini ve mesleğe bakış açılarını etkileyen etmenleri derinlemesine araştırmak ve incelemek hedeflenmektedir. Araştırma, alanyazında bu bağlamda yapılan araştırma ve çalışmalardaki eksikliğin giderilmesi, durumun saptanması ve detaylı bir araştırma ve incelemeye ihtiyaç duyulması nedeniyle önem arz etmektedir. Bu araştırma, nitel araştırma yöntemlerinden içsel durum çalışması olarak desenlenmiştir. Nvivo 12 Nitel Veri Analizi programı aracılığıyla gerçekleştirilen analiz sonucunda elde edilen tema ve kodlar ışığında bulgular sunularak yorumlanmıştır. Araştırma verileri incelendiğinde öğrencilerin, mezun olduktan sonra mesleğini icra etmek konusunda kafa karışıklığı yaşamalarında bölüme geliş nedenleri, çevresel faktörler, imkânlar, mesleğe bakış açılarının yanında atanma ve sınav kaygılarının da etkili olduğu görülmüştür.
