ADOLESCENT SUICIDE AND NURSING APPROACH

Abstract

Adolescence is a complex period in which physical and psycho-social changes occur in a short time and together. The addition of age-related risk factors in this period further increases the difficulties experienced. Adolescents’ inability to cope with these difficulties may cause to suicide, which is one of the risky behaviors. Suicide is the attempt to end one's life as a result of the interaction of many factors related to the individual, family and environment. Sociocultural, bio-psycho-social and environmental factors play a role in adolescent suicides, which are increasing in the world and our country. Nurses have important responsibilities in maintaining and developing adolescent health. Determining the risky behaviors in adolescents, the risk factors that cause suicide, and applying nursing approaches to these factors are important for preventing adolescent suicides. In the adolescent suicides, nurses approach to the prevention of suicide (primary protection) and to intervene with the adolescent who attempt to suicide (secondary protection). In this review article, adolescent suicides, risk factors, suicide methods, prevention of adolescent suicide and intervention to suicide attempt are discussed.

ERGENLERDE SUİSİD VE HEMŞİRELİK YAKLAŞIMI

Abstract

Ergenlik dönemi, fiziksel ve psiko-sosyal açıdan birçok değişikliğin kısa sürede ve bir arada yaşandığı karmaşık bir dönemdir. Bu dönemde yaş dönemine özgü risk faktörlerinin eklenmesi, yaşanılan güçlükleri daha da arttırmaktadır. Ergenlerin karşılaştığı bu güçlüklerle baş etmede yetersizlik yaşamaları, riskli davranışlardan biri olan suiside yönelmelerine neden olabilmektedir. Suisid, bireye, aileye ve çevreye ait birçok faktörün etkileşimi sonucu kişinin hayatına son verme girişimidir. Dünyada ve ülkemizde gittikçe artmakta olan ergen suisidlerinde, sosyokültürel, biyo-psiko-sosyal ve çevresel faktörler rol oynamaktadır. Ergen sağlığının sürdürülmesi ve geliştirilmesinde hemşirelere önemli sorumluluklar düşmektedir. Ergenlerin riskli davranışları, suiside neden olan risk faktörlerinin belirlenmesi ve bu faktörlere yönelik hemşirelik yaklaşımlarının uygulanması ergen suisidlerinin önlenmesi açısından önemlidir. Ergen suisidlerine yaklaşımda hemşireler, suisidi önlemeye yönelik (primer koruma) ve suisid girişiminde bulunan ergene müdahaleye yönelik (sekonder koruma) yaklaşımda bulunurlar. Bu derleme makalede, ergen suisidleri, risk faktörleri, suisid yöntemleri, ergen suisidlerini önlemeye ve gerçekleşen suisid girişimine müdahalede bulunmaya yönelik hemşirelik yaklaşımları ele alınmıştır.
