RESULTS OF SWL TREATMENT PERFORMED BY UROLOGY RESIDENTS IN OUR CLINIC

Abstract

Objective: We aimed to evaluate SWL results performed on patients with renal and ureteral stones in SWL Unit of our hospital by urology residents after a training of one month. Materials and Methods: 171 patients who have undergone SWL due to renal or ureteral calculi between May 2006 -June 2007 were evaluated retrospectively. Mean age was 50.1 years. SWL was applied for 125 kidney stones and 46 ureteral stones. Localization of stones in the urinary tract treated by SWL was as follows: 50.2%, 5.84%, 8.77 % and 8.18 % were pelvic, upper caliceal, middle caliceal and lower caliceal calculi, respectively; whereas 23.9% and 2.9% were upper and lower ureteral calculi, respectively. The stones were focused by a C-armed floroscopy having ellipsoid focus. All SWL applications were performed by urology residents after a training period of one month using a Stonelith-V3 Lithotripter. Average shock number was 2346 and average voltage was 18 kv for each case. Each case was subjected to average 3 SWL sessions. Results: In two months follow-up, 80.3%, 90.0%, 86.7%, 78.5%, 80.4 % and 100% of the patients with pelvic, upper caliceal, middle caliceal, lower caliceal, upper ureteral and middle ureteral calculi were stone-free, respectively.Conclusion: Our data show that success rates which are similar to those reported in literature could be achieved in a training hospital after a training of one month by urology resident

KLİNİĞİMİZDE ÜROLOJİ ASİSTANLARINCA UYGULANAN ESWL TEDAVİSİNİN SONUÇLARI

Abstract

Amaç: Hastanemizin ESWL Ünitesi’nde bir aylık eğitim sonrası üroloji asistanları tarafından böbrek ve üreter taşı nedeniyle PCK Stonelith-V3 Lithotriptör cihazı kullanılarak ESWL Extracorporeal Shock Wave Litotripsi uygulanan hastaların sonuçlarının değerlendirilmesi amaçlanmıştır.Gereç ve Yöntem: Mayıs 2006 ile Haziran 2007 arasında böbrek veya üreter taşı nedeniyle ESWL uygulanan 171 hasta retrospektif olarak değerlendirildi. Ortalama yaş 50.1 yıldı. ESWL uygulanan taşların 125 tanesi böbrek taşı ve 46 tanesi üreter taşı idi. ESWL uygulanan taşların üriner sistemdeki lokalizasyonu: % 50.2 pelvis, %5.84 üst kaliks, %8.77 orta kaliks ve % 8.18’i alt kaliks taşıyken; %23.9’u üst üreter ve % 2.9’u orta üreter taşıydı. Odaklama elipsoid odaklı C kollu skopi ile yapıldı. Tüm ESWL uygulamaları 1 ay eğitim verilen üroloji asistanları tarafından Stonelith-V3 Lithotriptör kullanılarak yapıldı. Hasta başına uygulanan ortalama şok sayısı 2346 ve ortalama voltaj 18 kv idi. Her vakaya ortalama 3 1-5 arası ESWL seansı uygulandı. Bulgular: İki aylık takip sonunda pelvis, üst kaliks, orta kaliks, alt kaliks, üst üreter ve orta üreter taşlı hastalarda, taşsızlık oranı sırasıyla %80.3, %90.0, %86.7, % 78.5, %80.4 ve %100 idi. Sonuç: Verilerimiz, bir eğitim hastanesinde bir aylık eğitim sonrası ESWL tedavisinde literatürde bildirilen başarı oranlarına benzer sonuçların elde edilebileceğini göstermektedir
