A rare cause of intermittent urinary retention in children: Urethral fibro epithelial polyp

Abstract

Benign fibroepithelial polyp of prostatic urethra is a rare congenital lesion. It is usually diagnosed in the pediatric population with various urinary symptoms and its etiology is controversial. Presenting symptoms are intermittent urinary retention, inadequate bladder emptying, hematuria, and urinary tract infection and rarely may it be asymptomatic. The diagnosis is usually made by ultrasonography, voiding cystourethrography, and urethrocystoscopy. In this case; 9 years old patient who admitted with intermittent obstructive urinary tract symptoms and then diagnosed posterior urethral fibroepithelial polyp, presented with literature. A mass extending from prostatic urethra to bladder neck and into bladder was detected by cystoscopy. The mass was resected with a transurethral intervention. Pathological assessment came as fibroepithelial polyp. The patient has not voiding symptoms at control examination.

Çocukta aralıklı üriner retansiyonun nadir bir sebebi: Üretral fibroepitelyal polip

Abstract

Prostatik üretranın iyi huylu fibroepitelyal polibi, genellikle pediatrik popülasyonda değişik üriner semptomlarla tanı alan ve etyolojisi tartışmalı olan nadir bir konjenital lezyondur. Başvuru semptomları aralıklı üriner retansiyon, tam boşalmayan mesane semptomları, hematüri ve üriner enfeksiyon olup, nadiren de asemptomatik olabilmektedir. Tanısı genellikle ultrasonografi, işeme sistoüretrografisi ve uretrosistoskopi ile konulabilmektedir. Dokuz yaşında aralıklı obstruktif üriner sistem semptomları ile başvuran ve posterior üretral fibroepitelyal polip tanısı alan olgu literatür eşliğinde sunuldu. Hastada endoskopik olarak prostatik üretradan başlayıp mesane boynu ve mesane içine uzanım gösteren kitle saptandı. Kitle transüretral girişimle rezeke edildi. Rezeke edilen kitlenin patolojik değerlendirmesi fibroepitelyal polip olarak rapor edildi. Kontrollerde hastanın işeme yakınmaları olmadığı gözlendi
