Abstract
Gotlar,
378 yılı Hadrianapolis savaşında coğrafi komşuları Roma İmparatorluğu ile ağır
bir mücadeleye girişmiştir. Bu savaşta Roma İmparatorluğu’nu mağlup eden Gotlar
elde ettikleri zaferi yerinde kullanamamış ve Roma’nın yeniden güçlenmesine
sebep olmuşlardır. Hadrianapolis savaşından sonra 381 yılında feodus anlaşması
ile Roma’ya bağlanan Gotlar 391’de kendilerini Roma içerisinde komutan olarak
soylarından gelen Alaricus’u seçmişlerdir. Alaricus, 391 ve 395 Roma ordusunda
Gotların ve kendisinin konumunu sağlamlaştırma amaçlı isyanlarını sürdürürken,
408-410 yılları arasında yaptığı üç Roma seferinde de en başından beri hayalini
kurduğu bağımsız Got Krallığı idealini gerçekleştirmeyi amaçlamıştır. Bu hedef
doğrultusunda ilerleyişini devam ettiren Alaricus, 410 yılında hayatla
bağlantısını kesmiştir.
