Changing Roles and Adaptation Process in the Family After Birth

Year 2025, Volume: 3 Issue: 1, 122 - 141, 30.06.2025

Abstract

The parenting process leads to psychological, physical, and social changes for both women and men. While women focus on their maternal identity, they may experience conflicts within their professional and personal identities. Issues such as increased responsibilities, psychological challenges, and difficulties in managing household tasks may arise. Men, on the other hand, may face adjustment problems related to new social roles and responsibilities both before and after childbirth. This process can affect the psychological well-being of new parents and lead to changes in their identities. A happy family is strengthened through effective communication. New parents may experience depression and anxiety due to the responsibilities of baby care, stress, and lack of sleep. Communication deficiencies can strain the couple’s relationship, while the emotional and psychological difficulties experienced by mothers and fathers can further negatively impact the situation. Studies in the literature highlight factors that facilitate this transition and enable parents to have a healthy experience. These factors include psychoeducation, healthy communication, social support, work-life balance arrangements, psychological support, and postpartum follow-up. Mental health professionals should assist parents in developing realistic attitudes, understanding relationship dynamics, and providing support within the cultural context. Proper integration of these factors enables parents to adapt healthily and positively influences the development of the baby.

Ailede Doğum Sonrası Değişen Roller ve Uyum Süreci

Year 2025, Volume: 3 Issue: 1, 122 - 141, 30.06.2025
