Investigation of in vivo Antifungal Activity of Some Acaricides Against Leaf Spot Disease (Alternaria alternata (Fr) Keissler)

Abstract

This study was conducted to determine the antifungal activity of Abamectin and Etoxazole acaricides against A. alternata under in vivo conditions. Acaricide doses were adjusted according to the package insert information. For two-spotted spider mites (Tetranychus urticae Koch), doses were applied at 50% higher and 50% lower than the recommended dose. As a result of the application, in eggplant, disease rates were determined as 24.17% with Abamectin, 22.21% with Etoxazole, and 20.55% with combined use. Disease severity was determined as 48.30%, 47.15%, and 50.80%, respectively. In tomato, disease rates were determined as 27.55% with Abamectin, 27.20% with Etoxazole, and 31.87% with combined use. Disease severity was determined as 46.80%, 47.50%, and 46.85%, respectively. The highest percentage effectiveness of acaricides against A. alternata was observed at high doses. In tomatoes, Abamectin achieved 41.28% effectiveness, 39.62% at the recommended dose, and 35.48% at the low dose. In eggplants, Abamectin was found to have 43.04% effectiveness at high doses, 39.33% at the recommended dose, and 34.12% at the low dose. It was determined that Abamectin acaricide had a high effectiveness at both high and low doses in tomato and eggplant plants and negatively affected the mycelial development of A. alternata on the leaves. As a result of the study, it is thought that the use of acaricides, especially Abamectin, in areas infested with A. alternata will increase the chances of success in chemical control against the fungal pathogen.
