The interleukin-1 IL-1 family of members is associated with acute and chronic inflammation, and plays an essential role in the immune response. The biological properties of IL1family members are typically pro-inflammatory.The IL1 family has 11family members and can be categorized into subfamilies according to the length of their precursor. This review introduces the IL-1 family members and examines functional roles of the IL-1 family cytokines in a variety of diseases.
