Türk erkeklerinin erkek ebelik bakımı İle ilgili görüşleri: kesitsel bir çalışma

Abstract

Amaç: Türk erkeklerinin eş, partner yada kadın yakınlarının erkek ebeden bakım alma konusundaki görüşlerini almaktır. Yöntemler: Kesitsel tipteki çalışma Ağustos-Eylül 2023 arasında, çevrimiçi ortamda litertaür bilgileri ışığında oluşturulan Google form ile ulaşılan gönüllü 276 gönüllü erkek ile yapılmıştır. Bulgular: Grup 31.50±10.98 yaşında, % 47.67’si baba, %66.7’si üniversite ve üzerinde, %74,2’sinin mesleği sağlık alanı dışında, %44,4’ü Türkiye’de erkek ebe olup olmadığını bilmemekte, %69.2’si erkeklerin ebelik yapabileceğini, %53.0’ü erkek yakının ebe olmasını istemediğini, %55.9’u erkek kadın doğum doktoru ve erkek ebe arasında fark olduğunu, %60.6’sı eşi/partneri/yakınının erkek ebeden bakım almasını istemediği belirlendi. Üniversite ve üzeri olan grupta, diğer gruplara göre erkeklerin ebe olmasını isteme, bir yakının erkek ebe olmasını isteme, eş ya da yakının erkek kadın doğum uzmanından bakım almasını isteme yüsek bulundu (p<0.05). Türkiye’de erkek ebe olmadığını ifade etme ve eş/yakının erkek doktordan bakım almasını isteme oranı sağlık çalışanı grubunda anlamlı olarak yüksek bulundu. Baba olanlarda, erkeklerin ebe olmasını istememe, eşi/partneri/yakının erkek ebeden bakım almasını istememe yüksek bulundu (p<0.05). Sonuç: Ülkemizde erkek ebe öğrencilerin artması ile birlikte bu konuya ilişkin tereddütlerin daha da ön planacağı düşünülmektedir. Erkek ebe sayısının daha fazla olduğu ve Türk kökenli göçmenlerin yoğun olduğu ülkelerde kültürel ve sosyal faktörler nedeniyle erkek ebeden bakım alma durumunun hasta ve eşi tarafından sorun olarak algılanabileceği düşünülmektedir. Dolaysıyla Türkiye’de ve Türk kökenlerin bireylerin yoğu yaşadığı ülkelerde konuya ilişkin daha fazla araştırmaya gereksinim vardır. Hastaların kültürel ve sosyal özelliklerinin hizmet sunumunda dikkate alınması hasta memnuniyeti ve bakım kalitesinin geliştirilmesinde önemlidir.

Turkish men's views about male midwifery care: a cross-sectional study

Abstract

Aims: To determine Turkish men’s views about receiving male midwifery care for their wife, partner, or female relatives. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted in September 2022- April 2023 with 279 male volunteers, reached via a Google Form prepared in light of the literature by the researchers. Results: Average age was 31.5±11.0 years, 47.7% fathers, 66.7% have university degrees and more, 74.2% are not employees in the medical sector, and 44.4% do not know the presence of male midwives in Turkiye, 69.2% agree men can do midwifery, 53% do not want a male relative to be a midwife, 55.9% see a difference between a male gynecologist and a male midwife, 60.6% do not want his partner/relative to receive care from male midwife. In the higher-educated group, men are supporting men to be midwives. They are also willing to receive care from male gynecologist for their spouse/ relative. Stating no male midwife in Turkiye, requesting spouse/relative to receive care from a male doctor was found to be significantly higher in the healthcare worker group. Not wanting men to be midwives and their spouse/partner/relative to receive care from a male midwife was found to be high (p<0.05). Positivity against male midwifery was higher at higher education level. With fatherhood, men prefer a gynecologist for their spouses/ partners; however, they do not prefer a male midwife. Conclusion: With the increase of male midwives in our country, hesitations will become more prominent. However, in western countries with high number of Turkish immigrants where male midwives are common, cultural and social aspects are part of competent care. However no data on this are available. All data will contribute to both sides.
