Purpose: This study aimed to determine nursing students' attitudes toward computer use in healthcare
Materials and Methods: The sample of the study, which was planned as a descriptor, consisted of 300 nursing students calculated by the formula used to determine the incidence of the event from the universe with a certain number of elements. This study's data were collected in face-to-face interviews. For data collection, the researcher used the “Attitudes Towards Computer in Health Care Assessment Scale” developed by Kaminski. This study was performed in compliance with ethical rules. The data were assessed using numbers and percentages in SPSS 15.0 software. The Mann-Whitney U and Kruskal-Wallis H tests were used to compare measurable variables.
Results: This study determined that emotions and attitudes towards computer use in fields where healthcare service is provided did not vary significantly by gender, age or year of study. Of the participants, 2% felt unease or anxiety about computer use, 4% felt restless or anxious about computer use, and 8% had limited awareness about computer technology. It was determined that 38.7% of the participants had realistic opinions about their computer abilities, 36% felt confident about using various computer programs, and 11.3% felt confident about learning computer use and were aware of the value of computer technology.
Conclusion: It should be ensured that nurse students see computer technology and education as an inseparable part of health care and nurse students should implement their applications in a computer-based environment in order to increase computer usage efficiency.
