Women’s Social Support Preferences and Experiences at Birth: A Qualitative Study

Abstract

Objective: The aim of this study; to examine women's social support preferences and experiences at birth. Materials and Methods: The study was carried out with 13 puerperal women who gave birth by normal vaginal delivery and determined by maximum diversity sampling technique, phenomenologically, which is one of the qualitative research methods. The data were collected by interview form, in-depth and face-to-face interview method, by voice recording. The data were collected by audio recording with in-depth interview form and face-to-face interview method, and analyzed through content analysis. Results: All of the women (13 people) who participated in the study preferred to receive social support during their birth, this support mostly in the whole birth process (9 people), physical and emotional support (10 people) and information support (13 people) from their mothers and health personnel (8 people). people) stated that they prefer to receive. It was determined that only 4 of the women participating in the study received social support in their last birth, and they received the most social support from their mothers (2 people), before the birth (3 people) and emotional support (3 people). Conclusion: In this study, it was concluded that although women needed social support throughout the birth process, they could not receive adequate social support.

Kadınların Doğumda Sosyal Destek Tercihleri ve Deneyimleri: Nitel Bir Çalışma

Abstract

ÖZ Amaç: Bu araştırmanın amacı; kadınların doğumda sosyal destek tercihlerini ve deneyimlerini incelemektir. Yöntem: Araştırma, nitel araştırma yöntemlerinden fenomenolojik olarak, normal vajinal yolla doğum yapan, maksimum çeşitlilik örnekleme tekniğiyle belirlenmiş 13 lohusa kadın ile yapılmıştır. Veriler görüşme formu ile derinlemesine ve yüz yüze görüşme yöntemiyle, ses kaydına alınarak toplanmıştır. Elde edilen veriler tema ve kodlar altında toplanmış, verilerin analizinde tüme varımsal içerik analizi tekniği kullanılmıştır. Bulgular: Araştırmaya katılan kadınların tamamı (13 kişi) doğumlarında sosyal destek almayı tercih ettiklerini, bu desteği en çok doğum sürecinin tamamında (9 kişi), fiziksel ve duygusal destek (10 kişi) ve bilgi desteği (13 kişi) şeklinde, annesi ve sağlık personelinden (8 kişi) almayı tercih ettiklerini belirtmiştir. Çalışmaya katılan kadınlardan sadece 4’ünün son doğumlarında sosyal destek aldığı, en çok annesinden (2 kişi), doğum başlamadan önce (3 kişi) ve duygusal destek (3 kişi) aldığı belirlenmiştir. Sonuç: Bu çalışmada kadınların doğum sürecinin tamamında sosyal desteğe ihtiyaç duymasına rağmen yeterli sosyal destek alamadıkları sonucuna varılmıştır.
