Investigation of Postgraduate Theses Published in the Field of Physiotherapy in Türkiye: Analysis of 2015-2024

Abstract

Objective: Our study was designed to examine the frequency and characteristics of postgraduate studies published in physiotherapy between 2015 and 2024. Materials and Methods: With the document review method, a data set was created by entering “department, thesis type and thesis year” information into the search engine of the Higher Education Institution Presidency Thesis Center database. Number and frequency values were recorded. Chi-square test was used for the relationship between categorical variables. Significance p<0.05 was accepted. Results: It was determined that a total of 2945 postgraduate theses, including 2426 master's theses, were published in physiotherapy between 2015-2024. In the last five years, the number of master's theses increased by 2 times and the number of doctoral theses increased by approximately 5 times compared to 2015-2019. In both thesis types, it was determined that the highest number of theses were published in 2023, and the highest number of theses were conducted in the departments of physiotherapy and rehabilitation (PTR), basic physiotherapy and rehabilitation (BPTR) and neurological physiotherapy and rehabilitation (NPTR). There was a significant relationship between the categorical variables of thesis year and thesis type (p<0.05). Conclusion: We believe that our results will guide future scientist candidates in their choice of field of study.
