An abamectin intoxication case followed in intensive care

Abstract

Abamectin intoxication is rare but depending on the amount taken can go up to death. In our case, a 38-year-old man was intoxicated with 200 mL abamectin (18g/L) orally for suicide. Patient was unconscious in the intensive care unit admission and Glasgow Coma Scale score was 7 but there were no clinical findings about abamectin intoxication except neurological findings. Patient voiced meaningless sounds and began to open eyes spontaneously at 12 hours after admission to intensive care and neurological condition completely returned to normal in intensive care on day 2 with applied intensive conservative treatment. At the end of the third day on the absence of any abnormalities in intensive care he was transferred to the service. Successful results can be obtained with careful supportive treatment in abamectin intoxication.
