Purpose: The aim of this study was to evaluate the relationship between descriptive, disease and surgical characteristics of patients with intestinal stoma.
Materials and Methods: This descriptive-relational study was conducted with 128 patients with intestinal stoma who applied to the stomatotherapy unit of Balcalı Hospital, Çukurova University. The research data were collected with Questionnaire for Individuals with Bowel Stoma, Adaptation Scale for Individuals with Ostomy and Inventory of Coping Ways.
Results: The Ostomy Adapted Scale for Individuals (ADSS) of the patients with stomata scored 58.61 ± 14.12, 23.98 ± 8.43, 15.84 ± 3.44, 12.53 ± 4.73, 6.25 ± 2.077 from total, acceptance, anxiety / anxiety, social adjustment, and anger subscales. Stepwise Multiple Linear Regression was found to be associated with the status of having ileostomy, being a woman, being older, being single, returning to work after stoma, using emotional coping ways to cope with problems, and inability to perform self-stoma care.
Conclusion: Stomata compliance scores of patients with stoma were found to be low and they needed methods to support stomata adaptation.
