The Reasons That Prevent Biking in Sustainable Transportation: Manisa Case

Abstract

Manisa has extremely high advantageous conditions other than many cities in Turkey becaouse of its topography and climatic conditions about the biking. Despite the migration due to young population and job opportunities, unfortunately it has not reached the desired level regarding bicycle use.. Depending on the use of individual motor vehicles, major problems are encountered in daily transportation during business and school entry-exit summit hours. As a result of the use of automobiles, it is increasingly getting rid of transportation problems in the city and environmental, economic and social problems arising from transportation. Increased use of bicycles is one of the most important factors for sustainable transportation systems. Despite the current possibilities of the city of Manisa, determining the awareness of the non-bicycle users about cycling as a result of the survey study and determining the factors preventing them from using the bicycle constitutes the aim of this study. In the sample group, it is aimed to make analyzes according to demographic variables. The data obtained during the interviews were analyzed with the SPSS 22 program. As a result of the research, it has been determined that the factors affecting the non-user segment are due to holistic planning deficiencies, physical condition and infrastructure deficiencies, barriers due to physical condition and infrastructure, security, cultural values and habits and holistic planning deficiencies.

Sürdürülebilir Ulaşımda Bisiklet Kullanımını Engelleyen Sebepler: Manisa Örneği

Abstract

Manisa, sahip olduğu topoğrafik koşullar ve iklimsel şartlar sayesinde bisiklet kullanımı konusunda Türkiye’deki pek çok kente göre son derece elverişli koşullara sahiptir. Ne var ki, sanayileşme sürecine bağlı olarak gelişen iş olanakları sebebiyle aldığı genç nüfus göçüne, üniversite öğrencilerinin varlığına rağmen bisiklet kullanımı konusunda henüz istenilen seviyeye ulaşamamıştır. Bireysel motorlu araç kullanımına bağlı olarak iş ve okul giriş-çıkış zirve saatlerinde günlük ulaşımda büyük problemlerle karşılaşılmaktadır. Otomobil kullanımı sonucu kentte ulaşım sorunları ve ulaşımdan kaynaklı çevresel, ekonomik ve sosyal sorunlarda giderek atmaktadır. Bisiklet kullanımının artması, sürdürülebilir ulaşım sistemleri için en önemli faktörlerden biridir. Manisa kentinin mevcut olanaklarına rağmen bisiklet kullanıcısı olmayan kesimin bisiklet ile ilgili farkındalıklarını anket çalışması sonucunda belirlemek ve bisiklet kullanımından alıkoyan faktörlerin tespit edilmesi bu çalışmanın amacını oluşturmaktadır. Örneklem grupta, demografik değişkenlere göre de analizlerin yapılması hedeflenmiştir. Yapılan görüşmelerde elde edilen veriler SPSS 22 programı ile analiz edilmiştir. Analizlerde ANOVA testi, Tukey testi ve T testleri yapılmıştır. Araştırma sonucunda bisiklet kullanımını etkileyen başlıca faktörlerin bütüncül planlama eksiklikleri, fiziki durum ve altyapı eksiklikleri, güvenlik ve kültürel değerler ve alışkanlıklara bağlı olduğu tespit edilmiştir.
