THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN TECHNOLOGY, INNOVATION AND
ECONOMIC GROWTH: AN INVESTIGATION OF HIGH AND UPPER
MIDDLE INCOME COUNTRIES
Öz
Technological developments have economic and political consequences. The level
that the humanity reached and the prosperity that is achieved today have occurred
in the light of the developments that took place in technological realm. This has
also had significant impact on inventions and innovations. This research,
investigates the interplay between the technological innovations and profitability
and economic growth. In this study, the relationship between innovation
indicators and economic growth examined for selected high income and the
upper-middle income group countries utilizing Panel FMOLS method and
Dumitrescu and Hurlin (2012) Panel Causality Test for the period of 1999-2014.
The Panel FMOLS results indicate that, human capital, share of research and
development expenditures, export levels, number of patent applications and
foreign direct investment have significant positive impact on economic growth.
Dumitrescu and Hurlin (2012) panel causality test reveals that there is a
bidirectional relationship between Gross Domestic Product and Research and
Development (R&D); R&D and human capital; R&D and Patents; Export and
R&D

TEKNOLOJİ, İNOVASYON VE EKONOMİK BÜYÜME İLİŞKİSİ: ÜST VE ÜST ORTA GELİR GRUPLARINDAKİ ÜLKELER ÜZERİNE BİR İNCELEME
Öz
Teknolojik gelişmelerin başta ekonomik ve politik olmak üzere birçok yönü
bulunmaktadır. Bugün ulaşılan uygarlık ve refah düzeyi teknolojik alanlarda
meydana gelen gelişmeler ışığında gerçekleşmiştir. Bu teknolojiler de icat ve
inovasyonların meydana gelmesinde önemli bir etkendir. Bunun yanında
teknolojik inovasyonlar karlılıkların artmasına, ekonomik anlamda büyümeye de
yol açmaktadır. Bu çalışmada dünya sıralamasında üst gelir grupları ile üst-orta
gelir grubundaki ülkeler esas alınarak inovasyon göstergeleri ve ekonomik
büyüme arasındaki ilişki Panel FMOLS yöntemi Dumitrescu ve Hurlin (2012)
Panel Nedensellik testi ile incelenmiştir. Elde edilen Panel FMOLS test
sonuçlarına göre içsel büyüme modellerinde de vurgulandığı gibi beşeri sermaye,
araştırma ve geliştirme giderlerine ayrılan pay, ihracat düzeyleri, patent başvuru
sayısı ve doğrudan yabancı yatırımlar seçilmiş ülkelerin ekonomik büyümesini
anlamlı ve pozitif yönde etkilemektedir. Dumitrescu ve Hurlin (2012) panel
nedensellik test sonuçlarına göre ise GSYH ile Araştırma-Geliştirme Giderleri;
beşeri sermaye ile Araştırma-Geliştirme Giderleri; Patent sayısı ve AraştırmaGeliştirme
Giderleri ve ihracat ile Araştırma-Geliştirme Giderleri arasında çift
yönlü ilişki olduğu sonucuna ulaşılmıştır
