A Bibliometric Analysis on Self-Esteem Research of Gifted Individuals (1981-2025)

Abstract

This study aims to present a bibliometric analysis of research (between 1981 and 2025) on the self-esteem of gifted individuals. On May 12, 2025, between 10:00 and 14:00 (GMT +3), a search was conducted using Web of Science indexes without constraints on year or language. A total of 75 studies met the requirements for inclusion. The most common publication language was English (n =62, 82.66%), and the USA was the country where most of the studies were published. (n = 33, 44%). Among the 75 documents, the average annual number of citations was 18.97, with a total of 166 authors and 1,423 citations. The highest number of articles was published in 2021 (n = 5, 10%). The most frequently encountered WoS category was Education Special (f = 23,30.67%), the most common document type was article (f = 70, 93.33 percent), and the journal with the highest number of publications was Gifted Child Quarterly (f = 10,13.33%). Johns Hopkins University emerged as the top contributing institution in the research (n = 5, 6.68%). This study is expected to give researchers preliminary information for future studies on self-esteem of gifted individuals by providing a broad and insightful overview of previous works in the field.
