The objective of present study was to compare genetic structure of seven Iranian provinces and
to understand the genetic relationship among these seven provinces (Isfahan, Fars,
Hormozgan, Kerman, Chaharmahal & Bakhtiari, Kohgiluyeh & Boyer Ahmad, and Yazd). For
this purpose, a set of 15 STR’s loci were investigated. This panel of STRs is standard forensic
science genetic testing tool that we added some importance to them by putting them in genetic
variation analysis. The results based upon Fisher exact test for Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium
(HWE) indicated that the allele and genotype distributions were in accordance with HardyWeinberg expectations except for D16S539. From genetic diversity point of view, D2S1338
was among the best STR loci and Isfahan has the highest value in aspect of these indices. Our
results indicated that high amount of gene flow have been from Isfahan to Fars, which should
be further investigated. Also, we indirectly shown that those forensic motivated genetic
markers could be used as reliable tool for genetic differentiation when sounds data are
available. We did not mean to estimate forensic science specific measures e.g. probability
match and etc. for current study.
