Assoc. Prof. Dr. Beste Tacal Aslan is an Associate Professor in the Department of Basic Medical Sciences at Marmara University Faculty of Dentistry, Istanbul, Türkiye. Her academic and research interests primarily focus on molecular biology, medical genetics, molecular medicine, and the application of genetic and cellular approaches to dentistry and human health.

She received her bachelor's degree in Biology Education from Marmara University in 2008 and completed her master's degree in Molecular Biology and Genetics at Yıldız Technical University in 2011. She subsequently earned her Ph.D. in Molecular Medicine from Istanbul University, Aziz Sancar Institute of Experimental Medicine, in 2018. Her doctoral research investigated the anticancer effects of acacetin on colon cancer cell lines, contributing to her expertise in cellular and molecular research.

Dr. Tacal Aslan began her academic career at Marmara University Faculty of Dentistry in 2012. Her research encompasses several interdisciplinary areas, particularly genetic polymorphisms associated with oral and dental diseases, molecular mechanisms underlying disease susceptibility, and genetic determinants of athletic performance. Her studies have addressed genetic variations associated with peri-implantitis, dental caries, malocclusion, temporomandibular disorders, and other oral health conditions. She has also contributed extensively to sports genetics research, investigating the relationships between genetic biomarkers, physical performance, and psychometric characteristics in athletes.

More recently, her research has expanded into implant biology and regenerative dentistry, with particular emphasis on the effects of titanium surface modifications on osteoblast and fibroblast behavior, cellular responses, and gene expression. She serves as principal investigator and researcher in several funded scientific projects involving molecular genetics, biomaterials, and interdisciplinary biomedical research.

Dr. Tacal Aslan has authored and co-authored numerous scientific articles published in national and international peer-reviewed journals, as well as book chapters covering molecular genetics, genetic biomarkers, and oral health. She is actively involved in undergraduate and postgraduate education, teaching medical biology, genetics, and biotechnology, while supervising graduate research projects.

In addition to her research and teaching activities, she contributes to academic administration, scientific publishing, and peer-review processes. Through her interdisciplinary research collaborations, she aims to advance the understanding of genetic and molecular mechanisms in human health and disease and to support the translation of molecular discoveries into clinical and biomedical applications.

Prof Dr Atalı graduated from Marmara University in 2005 and received her PhD degree from Marmara University in 2011. She is working at Restorative Dentistry Department, Marmara University, İstanbul since 2011 and maintains a full-time professor with teaching responsibilities for undergraduate as well as graduate and post-graduate students. 
Prof Dr Atalı continues her clinical and laboratory studies on dental materials, genetics and caries risk factors, preventive dentistry, direct-indirect restorations and bleaching. She published many research articles in national and international journals and book chapters. She presented poster/oral presentations and her researches were awarded at congresses. Prof Dr Atalı takes part as a director, researcher and supervisor in projects supported by DPT, TUBITAK, TUSEB and universities, where teams from many different disciplines work together. She is a member of the International Association for Dental Research (IADR), Turkish Society of Restorative Dentistry (RDD), The International Academy for Adhesive Dentistry (IAAD), and Dentistry Education Programs Accreditation Association (DEPAD).
