Examining the perception and attitudes of farmers towards climate change: An application in Türkiye

Abstract

In today's conditions, the negative effects of human-induced global warming and the destruction caused by this warming in nature are felt increasingly each passing day. In particular, raising farmers' awareness about climate change (CC) will make it easier for them to act sensitively in this regard. This study was conducted to reveal whether climate change concerns (CCC) mediate the relationship between farmers' climate change perceptions (CCP) and climate change attitudes (CCA). The universe of the study consists of farms in Şanlıurfa, an important agricultural city located in the Southeastern Anatolia Region of Turkey. The survey method was used in the study. The data related to the application were collected using the survey method. The collected data were analyzed using SPSS v. 25 and Amos v. 23 programs. A positive and significant relationship was found between farmers' perceptions and attitudes towards climate change. It was determined that climate change attitude (CCA) had a mediating role in this relationship. On the other hand, positive and significant relationships were found between climate change perception (CCP), climate change attitude (CCA), and climate change concern (CCC). It was revealed that farmers were sensitive about climate change.
