Abstract

This special issue of the Gazi Journal of Physical Education and Sports Sciences is dedicated to commemorating Prof. Dr. İbrahim Yıldıran—founding editor of the journal and a pioneering scholar in the fields of history of sports, philosophy of sport, and fair play in Türkiye. Since its establishment in 1996, Prof. Yıldıran played a decisive role in shaping the journal’s academic identity, strengthening editorial standards, and contributing to the development of sports science publishing. This commemorative volume brings together original contributions from distinguished national and international scholars, reflecting the thematic focus of sports history and philosophy of sport—areas in which Prof. Yıldıran has made enduring and profound intellectual contributions. Beyond his publications, his influence extends through mentoring young academics and advancing scholarship in sports culture, historical research, fair play, and traditional games. This special issue stands as a scholarly tribute honoring his legacy, academic vision, and invaluable service to the field. It also aims to guide future researchers by addressing core concepts, historical discussions, and philosophical perspectives that have marked his academic journey.
