INVESTIGATING THE TRANSFORMATIONAL AND TRANSACTIONAL LEADERSHIP STYLES OF PHYSICAL EDUCATION AND SPORTS SCHOOL MANAGERS
Abstract
This research was done
to determine the using level of transformational and transactional leadership
styles of physical education and sports school managers according to managers'
and academicians' perception and managers' have had leadership styles whether
differentation or not managers' and academicians' perception. Population was
consisted of 89 academy managers and 521 academicians who work in 38 Physical
Education and Sports School and 2 Sports Sciences and Technology School that
are connected to state universities in Turkey, between 2007-2008 educational
term. In order to collect data, Multifactor Leadership Questionnaire-MLQ 5X-
SHORT was developed by Bernard Bass ve Bruce Avolio (1995), and "Personal
Information Form" was developed by the researcher in order to determine
personal characteristics. Mann-Whitney U test was used to compare dual groups
which were examined whether they are differentioned or not according to their
personal characteristics' influence on using level of leadership styles of
school managers. Significance level was accepted as 0.05. Research results;
According to perception of managers and academicians, school managers execute
firstly transformational, later they execute transactional leadership style.
The managers think that they realize transformational and transactional
leadership style behaviours with a higher degree and significant average than
the academicians.
