EFFECTS OF CREATINE SUPPLEMENTATION ON BADMINTON PERFORMANCE
Abstract
The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of creatine (Cr) supplementation on exercise performance level of elite badminton players. Nine badminton players (age = 19.22 ± 2.16 years; height 174.53 ± 6.98 cm and body weight = 66.25 ± 10.54 kg) were tested on the badminton court according to the work - rest ratio of elite badminton match play, by ‘ghost badminton’ playing routine. Subjects were used either 5 gr Cr + 5gr dextroze or 10 gr dextroze four times in a day through the 5 days with meals and in 250 ml warm water. They were tested three times. First measurement was made without loading, second measurment was made randomly after creatine or placebo supplementation. Third measurement was made according to the double-blind crossover design after 28 days later. Distances, the subject run through the sets were determined by video analyze method and Lactate (La), Heart Rate (HR) and Received Percieved Exertion (RPE) values were recorded. Data were analyzed with One Way Anowa for Repeated Meausures statistical methodology and p<0.05 significance was used. Mauchly test was used for the homojenity of variances and in order to correct the variances, Greenhouse-Geisser correction factor was used. There were no statistically significant changes of elite badminton players performance level among three measurements. Creatine supplementation has no effects on the performance level of elite badminton players.
