A STUDY ON V02 MAX AND SOME RESPİRATORY PARAMETERS OF YOUNG GİRLS AGED 16 YEAR S
Abstract
This study was carried out to determine the effects of the basketball and athletics on some respiratory parameters and max VO2 in young girls 16 years of age. The study was conducted on 42 girls including 12 controls, 18 athletes and 12 basketball players who play sports actively for five years. Max VO2 of the subjects was indirectly measured using by cooper test, and respiratory parameters were assessed by dry spirometer system in the young girls. Max VO2 was higher (P < 0.005) in the basketball players and athletes than in the control group. Forced vital capacity (FVC) and forced expiratory volume (FEV1) were higher in the athletes (P < 0.005 and P .< 0.05) and basketball players (P < 0.01 and P < 0.005) than in the control group, respectively. Maximum voluntary ventilation (MW) was found to be higher in the athletes (P < 0.05) and basketball players (P < 0.005) than in the control group where as FEV1 (%) was not different between the groups. In conclusion, athletics and basketball sports may cause increases in max VO2 and some respiratory parameters in young girls 16 yea® of age.
