Abstract
Kirghiz, known as the most ancient tribe in the history, like the other Turkish tribes, has been mentioned together with the horse throughout the history. Horse had the major importance in their social, political, economical, religious life and in their military structure. Having an important role in the formation of their arts, literature, customs and tradition, horse hs been the most important thing in the determination of Kirghiz sport tradition.
Such importance of the horse in the historical and cultural unity has caused a number of horsemanship sports
to come into being. These sports, which formed, developed, deterrmined and shown according to the
steppe life style, have disappeared and lost their importance due to the fact that horse has lost it's historical role and because of the change in the social, economical and the political conditions. Kirghiz, that have lived on the lands that the ancient Turkish steppe culture formed and developed and determined their migration and accomodation areas, economical and social life fields according to this.is also the only tribe which has also protected the characteristic pecularity of Turkish nation. In addition to these, Kirghiz have the most potential knowledge and experience among the Great Asia Turkish people in the determination of the origin of the sports mentioned, in the examination from the theoric and practical point of view, in the reminding of the forgotten and almost forgotten and in the imitataion with the origanel names and unknown parts.
When approached from this point of view, it's can still be seen that nowadays , the sports such as Kız Oynak,
Kız Börü, Seyi Sunuş, Cılanaç Çarpışuu and Öpkü Çrpışuu which aren't organized and the sports such as
Sayış, At Toppi Oyondo, Çevken andAykır Çabış which were organized symbollically until recently, the sports
such as At Çaap Cooluktu Almay, At Sekirtmey, At Üstündö Oynoo, At Minip Kubalaşuu, Tay Cans, Kunan Çabuğ, Sürükleme, Cırga Tartuu and Ukuruk Salmay which are still organized but not frequently among Kirghiz.
These 18 Kirghiz traditional horsemanship sports and some of them, which was organized and done very often
in the past but not organized and done anymore, and which has lost it's popularity even if it is organized or dona, are come across the variations of Selçuk and Ottoman variation in Turkey, but some of them are never come across.
