PHYSICAL ACTIVITY LEVELS OF WORKING SUBJECTS IN ANKARA
Abstract
The purpose of this study was to determine the physical
activity levels of subjects who works in Ankara, whose ages between 19-53 years
old. 161 female (ages 31.348.02 years) and 314 male volunteers (ages 36.877.7 years)
were participted in this study (n=475). Subjects were asked to answer Physical
Activity Assessment Questionnaire (PAAQ) which consist of work, house,
transportation, climbing stairs and sport indexes and each indexes' METs/hours
and hours/week values calculated. There were no significant differences between
total hours (h/wk) which were expended for indexes and sexes. There were
significant differences on METs values (METs/h) among work, home, sport indexes
between sexes. There were significant differences between subject who works in
a standing and sitting position on the expenditure of METs values (METs/h) and
hours (h/wk) in an office. There were significant differences between age
groups on work and house indexes on METs/h. Except sport indexes subjects who
participated in this study were found lightly physically active on the other
indexes.
