EFFECTS OF RAPID WEIGHT LOSS ON STRENGTH AND ENDURANCE OF ELITE WRESTLERS
Abstract
In this research physiological changes in performance of university elite wrestlers following 5 % weight lossing in 48 hours were assessed. 17 wrestlers we volunteered to participate in this research. General endurance, general strength, explosive strength and aerobic capacity were measured as follows. 1. Before weight loss, 2. After weight loss, 3. Following 16-18 hours recovery period, The dependent measures were analysed using T-test differences for all dependent measures were considered significant at the P < 0,05 and P < 0,01 level. According to result of this research 5 % rapid weight loosing has negative effects on general endurance, general strength, explosive strength and aerobic capacity in different phases. In addition it was observed that these effects slightly continued after recovery period.
