ACHIEVEMENT MOTIVATION DIFFERENCES OF PROFESSIONAL AND AMATEUR SOCCER PLAYERS AND RELATIONSHIP WITH SPORT EXPERIENCE
Abstract
The purpose of this study was to determine 1., 2., 3. leaque and an amateur leaque soccer teams achhievement motivation differences and also to determine effects of sport experience on achievement motivation. For this purpose, from 1. leaque (n=19), from 2. leaque (n=22), from 3. leaque (n=21) and from an amateur leaque (n=22) male soccer players were selected as a subject. To get sport experience of the subject, 9-question scala, which was prepared by investigater has been applied. The achievement motivation levels of the subjects have been determined by using likert type, 40 question scala, which was composed of three subscalas ( motive to display power, motive to approach succeed, motive to avoid failure ). The significant differences among groups’ achievement motivation and sport experiences have been tested by Anova. Relationship between sport experience and achievement motivation have been tested by pearson correlation. As a result, according to motive to display power and motive to approach succeed, all professional players got higher scores than amateur players (p<0.05) and there weren’t any significant differences between 2., and 3. leaque players (p>0.05). According to motive to avoid failure, 1. leaque players got significantly higher scores than all other players (p<0.05), and there weren’t any differences between 2. and 3. leaques teams (p>0.05). Besides these, there was a poor positive relationship between sport experience and motive to avoid failure of 1. leaque players and poor negative relationship between sport experience and motive to display power of 2. leaque players (p<0.05).
