AN INVESTIGATION OF LIFE STYLES IN RETIRED ELITE ATHLETES
Abstract
The purpose of this study was to investigate the life styles of retired athletes. A total of 30 male subjects was
divided into 3 groups. Group 1 : Former national players (FNP) who have continued to exercise regularly (Age
X = 43.7 ± 3.43 ). Group 2 : Former national players who have discontinued their sports activities or who
haven’t been exercising regularly (Age X = 45.9 ± 3.0). Group 3 : Sedentary people (Age X = 41.8 ± 1.69).
Data on participants’ MET values, flexibility, waist/hip ratio, " skinfold measures", body fat ratio, and some other
physical parameters ( age, height, weight, etc.) have been compared. In addition, all subjects’ health behaviors,
risk factors, family history of disease, demographic data and current and past participation in leisure time sport
and physical activities were collected face-to-face through questionaires.
In conclusion :The statistical analysis of these measures (t-test) showed that MET (1-2*), Flexibility (1-3**),
Skinfold measures (chest (1-2*, 1-3*), triceps (1-2*, 1-3*), abdominal (1-2*), suprailiac (1-2*)), Body fat ratio
(1-2*), were statistically found significant (*p<0.05 ** p<0.01). Other parameters, Body mass index (BMI),
Waist/Hip ratio, Skinfold measures (biceps, thigh and subscapula) were not found significant (*p<0.05**
p<0.01) when all groups of people (1-2, 2-3, and 1-3) were compared to each other.
