THE EFFECTS OF PLYOMETRIC TRAINING PERFORMED WITH FREE BODY WEIGHT AND WITH EXTRA LOAD ON SERUM ENZYME ACTIVITY

Abstract

This study was done to determine the muscle damage and the effect of training on the damage examining the effects of plyometric training performed with free body weight and with extra load on serum enzyme activity CK, AST, LDH. For this aim totally 25 healthy and volunteered students from The School of Physical Education and Sport participated in this study as subjects. The subjects were divided into four groups as free body weight group (A) (n=6), load vest group (B) (n=6), sand bag group (C) (n=7) performed plyometric training with extra load that was 10% of their own body weight. The control group had only participated in measurement (D) (n=6) The control groups except all groups participated in plyometric training three times in a week during eight weeks and each session continued 30-40 min. All measurements were done one week (once exercise before (1. samples) and after (2. samples) and eight week (once exercise before (3. samples) and after (4. samples) training program. Data were expressed using SPSS program and compared by analysis of paired sample t test and MANOVA ,to determine the difference among the groups, Tukey HSD method was used. Post exercise CK values increased in all groups before second and fourth measurement. AST values between first and second measurement of control group are significant at p< 0.01 level but in the other groups significant are at p< 0.05 level. Increasing of CK and AST values after exercise is point of muscle damage. There are difference in the LDH values among measurement but this difference is not statistical significant. As a conclusion it was found out that the exercises done caused muscle damage; the adaptation to exercise of the group trained with extra load was better than the group trained with free body weight following 8-week training period and training had a protective effect against exercise induced muscle damage. Meanwhile trainings with extra load had more protective effect against exercise induced muscle damage.
