PHYSICAL AND PHYSIOLOGICAL COMPARISON OF ELITE FEMALE A THLETES FROM DIFFERENT BRANCHES

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine and to compare the physical and physiological characteristics of elite female athletes from different branches. 41 basketball players, 36 handball players and 34 volleyball players participated in this study as subjects voluntarily. They were selected randomly from Turkish Female Basketball, Handball and Volleyball Primer League. Their average age, height and body weight were as follows, Basketball, age 20.98 ± 3.57 years, height 176.15 ± 6.70 cm, body weight 65.24 ± 6.93 kg, Handball, age 20.92 ± 3.82 years, height 168.78 ± 5.91 cm, body weight 59.50 ± 5.17 kg and Volleyball, age 21.32 ± 2.07 years, height 176.00 ± 4.86 cm and body weight 65.32 ± 5.50 kg. Subjects' height, body weight, vertical jump, anaerobic power, aerobic capacity, resting heart rate, body fat %, flexibility and grip strenght scores were determined by some laboratory and field tests. Statistical analyzes ofdatas were done by ANOVA Test. At the end of the study, there were significant differences between branches. Especially voleyball players had better resting heart rate, anaerobic power, right and left hand grip (P<0.05), and vertical jump scores (P<0.01) scores than basketball and handball players. In addition basketball players had higher body fat % (P<0.05) and flexibility scores than the others
