A comprehensive palliative care center implementation in S.B. Ulus State Hospital

Palliative care has become an important public health issue since the last twenty years. The ageing of the population, the rising life expectancy and increasing chronic illnesses are contribute to this development. In addition to advances in medical knowledge and technology that increase treatment possibilities and epidemiological transitions have led to a growing need of palliative care in the last phase of life. Every people wants to best care and to die painless in their end-stage of life. This is a human right. Therefore, end-of-life care is considered an indicator of health quality all over the world. The ultimate goal of palliative care is to relieve the suffering of patients and their families by the comprehensive assessment and treatment of physical, psychosocial, and spiritual symptoms experienced by patients. After the patient's death, palliative care focuses primarily on bereavement of the family. T.C. Ministry of Health to find a solution of this important issue as a first step, the preparations for the establishment of palliative care centers and units, training of health personnel started. S.B. Ulus State Hospital as a team we have set out to open a comprehensive palliative care center. Our goal is to contribute on take place of palliative care organization in health system and to the spread across the country.

S.B. Ulus Devlet Hastanesi'nde Kapsamlı Palyatif Bakım Merkezi Uygulaması

Öz

Palyatif bakım, son yirmi yıldan bu yana önemli bir halk sağlığı sorunu haline gelmiştir. Nüfusun yaşlanması, yükselen yaşam beklentisi ve artan kronik hastalıklar bu gelişmeye katkıda bulunmaktadır. Buna ek olarak tıbbi bilgi ve teknolojideki gelişmeler, tedavi olanaklarının artması ve epidemiyolojik geçişler, yaşamın son aşamasında palyatif bakım için büyüyen bir ihtiyaca yol açmıştır. Her insan yaşamının son aşamasında iyi bakılmak ve acısız ölmek ister. Bu bir insanlık hakkı olup yaşam sonu bakım tüm dünyada sağlık kalitesinin bir göstergesi olarak kabul edilir. Palyatif bakımın hedefi, kapsamlı bir değerlendirme ve tedavi ile hastalar tarafından yaşanan fiziksel, psikososyal ve ruhsal belirtileri ve ailelerinin acılarını hafifletmektir. Hastanın ölümünden sonra palyatif bakım öncelikle ailenin yası üzerine odaklanır. T.C. Sağlık Bakanlığı tarafından bu önemli soruna bir çözüm bulmak için ilk adım atılmış, palyatif bakım merkez ve birimlerinin kurulması için hazırlıklara, sağlık personelinin eğitimlerine başlanmıştır. S.B. Ulus Devlet Hastanesi ekibi olarak bizde kapsamlı bir palyatif bakım merkezi açmak üzere yola çıkmış bulunmaktayız. Amacımız palyatif bakım organizasyonun sağlık sistemi içinde yer alması ve ülke genelinde yayılmasına katkıda bulunmaktır.
