The effect of prosocial behavior education program on preschoolers' prosociality levels and an examination of fathers' prosociality levels

Abstract

This study, conducted with the aim of investigating the effect of prosocial behavior training activities on the prosociality levels of preschool children and determining the prosociality levels of fathers, utilized a mixed-methods approach. The research was carried out with the participation of a total of 30 children and their fathers: 15 children in the experimental group and 15 in the control group. These participants were students (aged 50-72 months) enrolled in two different kindergartens located in the Etimesgut district of Ankara Province. Data were collected using a Demographic Form, the Child Prosociality Scale (Father and Teacher Forms), the Adult Prosociality Scale (Father Form), and two Prosocial Behavior Interview Forms (Father and Child Forms). The "Prosocial Behavior Training Activities" were implemented as 24 sessions over eight weeks with the experimental group. The control group continued standard educational activities without intervention until the conclusion of data collection. Data was analyzed using the SPSS statistical software package. Analysis revealed a statistically significant difference between the experimental group's pre-test and post-test scores on the Child Prosociality Scale Teacher Form. Similarly, an increase was observed in the frequency of children's interview responses reflecting prosocial behaviors. Conversely, no significant difference was found in the fathers' scores. In conclusion, the implemented training activities significantly affected the children's prosociality levels.
