Candidate Teachers’ Perceptions Towards Technology During the Process of Art Education

Abstract

Rapid change and development occurring in today’s science and technology era also changes the structure of the societies. Therefore, it is impossible for the goals and the methods of art education to remain stable.

Today’s technological advancements effects the plastic arts directly and offers novel techniques instead of the conventional ones. The art of painting has been generating new expressions in a variety of fields from Multimedia Technologies to material technologies, and that is inevitable to affect not only the field of art, but also the art education.

This study was conducted with the aim of determining the art department students’ technology awareness during the art education, how they perceived the technology, whether they used the existing technology in the process of art education or not. The study group was composed of 50 participants selected by convenience sampling technique.

A questionnaire composed of 26 items was conducted. The questionnaire had 3 parts. The first part consisted of demographic information with 10 items. (gender, age, school, faculty, pocket money, the place they stayed, the education levels of the parents). The second part consisted of 4 items and those items were about the technological devices they possessed and their familiarity of using devices, hardware and software. The third part consisted of 13 items aiming at determining the students’ perceptions towards technology. The percentage and frequency analysis perform with the results of the study.
