Students and Parents’ Perception of Children’s University
Abstract
In the present study, the aim was to determine children and parents’ perception of children’s university. The present study employed case study design, one of the qualitative research methods. The study group of the current research consists of 25 seventh grade students (14 girls and 11 boys) attending the program called “Science is Fun at Children’s University” initiated by Sinop University Children’s Education and Research Center and their parents. At the end of the study, it was found that none of the children had not had any experience of children’s university before; they expected that the course would be conducted as instructor-based yet they encountered an application which was different from their expectation as they were more active. Parallel to their children, the parents also stated that children’s university was different from what they had expected and they found the experience positive as there were many different activities related to many different fields such as applied sciences, arts and sports etc. Moreover, the parents stated that they had expected their children to be instructed only by faculty members.
