Effect of Web-Based Distance Education on Student Achievement in Science Education

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to examine the effect of web-based distance education teaching of substance exchange unit included in the 5th grade science course on student achievement. The study was carried out with experimental design with pretest-posttest control groups. The experimental applications of the study was conducted on 45 students from the 5th grade A-B branches in 2014-2015 school year in Toki Ş.J. Yb. Alim Yılmaz Secondary School in Muğla province. Within the scope of the study, two groups were created including experimantal and control groups. An achievement test, which was developed by the researcher and the validity and reliability analysis was conducted, was used during data collection. The achievement test for the substance exchange unit was applied to the both groups as a pre-test before starting to the study. The unit was taught with a website to the experimantal group. The achievement test was applied to the both groups as post-test. The data obtained was analyzed by determining the necessary statistical techniques by SPSS (Statistical Package for Social Sciences) package program. According to the findings of the obtained study results, it has been shown that the web-based distance education make a difference on students.
