Investigation of Physical-Spatial Conditions of Teachers' Rooms and Spatial Satisfaction Levels of Teachers Regarding Teachers' Rooms
Abstract
In this research, the teachers’ rooms which is an important unit of the learning environment/schools; the time spent in these areas, structural (physicalspatial) features and teachers’ spatial satisfaction level about the teacher rooms have been examined and discussed based on the relationships among these variables. The main question involves how much time teachers spend at teachers’ rooms, how and what this unit’s physical-spatial conditions are, and teachers’ positive and negative perceptions about the area. The research was conducted with a qualitative approach and carried out in a case study model. The participants of the research consist of 10 teachers working in primary and secondary schools in Akdağmadeni district of Yozgat province in the 2017-2018 academic year. The "Teachers' Room Diary" form, developed for this research, was used as a data collection tool. The data analysis of the study was carried out using the content analysis technique. As a result, it was seen that teachers' rooms were used by teachers for a long time and functionally relative to the time spent at school. It was observed that fewer data were recorded under the physical conditions theme of the teachers' rooms compared to the spatial conditions theme, and these records mostly contained negative perceptions. It was concluded that spatial conditions are the themes in which a large number of data was recorded and these records mostly contain positive perceptions. It has been observed that teachers' satisfaction levels regarding the place are at a high level. Based on the findings of the research, it is recommended to carry out complementary studies that contribute to the field and move the teachers' rooms to better conditions.
