Tarihî çevreye yönelik gençlik farkındalığı: İskilip’te algı, değerler ve tutumlar

Abstract

Tarihî çevreler, bireylerin geçmişi gündelik yaşam içinde algılama, yorumlama ve anlamlandırma biçimleri üzerinden kültürel mirasa yönelik farkındalıklarının şekillenmesinde önemli bir rol oynamaktadır. Bu çalışma, İskilip’teki tarihî çevreye yönelik gençlik farkındalığını; algı, değer atfetme ve mirasın korunmasına yönelik tutumların birbiriyle ilişkili boyutları üzerinden incelemektedir. Karma yöntem yaklaşımının benimsendiği araştırmada, metafor analizi ile miras değerleri ve tutumlarına yönelik betimsel değerlendirmeler bir arada kullanılmıştır. Veriler, 2024–2025 akademik yılında Hitit Üniversitesi İskilip Meslek Yüksekokulu’nda öğrenim gören ön lisans programı öğrencilerine uygulanan dört bölümlü bir anket aracılığıyla toplanmıştır (n = 148). Açık uçlu sorular yoluyla elde edilen metaforlar, algısal ve sembolik yorumları ortaya koymak amacıyla analiz edilirken; değer ve tutum ifadeleri betimsel olarak incelenmiştir. Bulgular, kültürel mirasa ilişkin soyut kavrayışlar ile İskilip’e yönelik mekâna dayalı algılar arasında belirgin bir ayrım olduğunu göstermektedir. Kültürel mirasın daha çok kimlik ve kolektif hafıza ile ilişkilendirildiği; buna karşılık İskilip algısının maddi varlık, mekânsal aşinalık ve yaşantısal deneyimler üzerinden şekillendiği görülmektedir. Değer atfetme ve korumaya yönelik tutumlar, bu algısal temellerle ilişkili olarak gelişmekte ve gündelik mekânsal pratiklere gömülü unsurlar daha fazla ön plana çıkmaktadır. Çalışma, tarihî çevrelere yönelik gençlik farkındalığının, mekânla kurulan gündelik etkileşimlere dayanan ilişkisel ve deneyimsel bir süreç olduğunu ortaya koymakta; küçük ölçekli tarihî yerleşimler üzerinden, anıtsal odaklı yaklaşımların ötesine geçen mekâna dayalı boyutları vurgulamaktadır.

Youth awareness of the historic environment: perception, values and attitudes in Iskilip

Abstract

Historic environments play a crucial role in shaping youth awareness of cultural heritage by mediating how individuals perceive, interpret, and value the past within everyday life. This study examines youth awareness of the historic environment of Iskilip by focusing on the interrelated dimensions of perception, value attribution, and attitudes toward heritage conservation. Adopting a mixed-methods design, the research combines metaphor analysis with descriptive assessments of heritage values and attitudes. Data were collected through a four-part questionnaire administered to students enrolled in associate degree programmes at Hitit University Iskilip Vocational School during the 2024–2025 academic year (n = 148). Metaphors elicited through open-ended prompts were analysed to capture perceptual and symbolic interpretations, while value and attitude statements were examined descriptively. The findings reveal a clear distinction between abstract understandings of cultural heritage and place-based perceptions of Iskilip. While cultural heritage is primarily conceptualised through symbolic references to identity and collective memory, perceptions of Iskilip are shaped by material presence, spatial familiarity, and lived experience. Value attribution and attitudes toward conservation develop in relation to these perceptual foundations, with greater emphasis on elements embedded in everyday spatial practices. The study demonstrates that youth awareness of historic environments is a relational and experiential process grounded in everyday encounters with place, highlighting place-based dimensions that extend beyond monument-centred contexts.
