The Mediating Role of Psychological Resilience in the Socio-Cultural Adaptation and Spiritual Well-Being of International Students
Abstract
This study aimed to investigate the mediating role of psychological resilience in the relationship between sociocultural adaptation and spiritual well-being among international students who came to Turkey for undergraduate education. The research method employed is a correlational survey model, a type of quantitative research design. The study sample consisted of 294 (187 female, 107 male) international undergraduate students enrolled at universities in Turkey. The data collection instruments used in the study were a Personal Information Form, the Sociocultural Adaptation Scale, the Brief Resilience Scale, and the Three-Factor Spiritual Well-Being Scale. Relationships between variables were examined using Pearson Correlation Analysis. The mediating role of psychological resilience in the relationship between spirituality and socio-cultural adaptation was analyzed using PROCESS v3.4 (Model 4) developed by Hayes. According to the findings, a significant positive relationship was found between spiritual well-being and psychological resilience, whereas significant negative relationships were identified between sociocultural adaptation and both psychological resilience and spiritual well-being. The mediation analysis revealed the significant indirect effect of spiritual well-being on sociocultural adaptation through psychological resilience. The results of the study are discussed and interpreted within the framework of the relevant literature.
