Healthy Life Awareness and Life Satisfaction in Young Adulthood: A Research on Students of a Vocational School of Health Services

Abstract

This research aims to examine the relationship between healthy lifestyle awareness and life satisfaction levels of students of a vocational school of health services. The research was carried out with 165 students studying at Erzincan Binali Yıldırım University Refahiye Bahar Yıldırım Vocational School of Health Services in the 2021–2022 academic year. The data were collected by using the Healthy Lifestyle Awareness Scale (HLAS) and the Life Satisfaction Scale (LSS). In the analyses, in addition to descriptive statistics, independent samples t-test, ANOVA and Pearson correlation analyses were utilized. The findings of the research showed that there are positive and significant relationships between life satisfaction and the Socialization, Nutrition and Responsibility sub-dimensions of healthy lifestyle awareness. Some demographic and lifestyle variables such as age, gender, income level, physical activity and frequency of health service use showed significant differences in both awareness and life satisfaction levels. As a result, while the healthy lifestyle awareness levels of the students were found to be generally high, it was determined that the life satisfaction levels were relatively lower. This situation reveals that there is a need for interventions aimed at supporting the subjective well-being of individuals receiving education in the field of health. The findings obtained are of a guiding nature in terms of the development of educational curricula and the planning of student support services.
