Examining the Views of Parents of 60-72 Month-Old Children on Media Tools
Abstract
In this study, the views of parents who have children aged 60–72 months regarding media tools were examined. The study group consisted of parents of children attending an independent public preschool located in the Etimesgut district of Ankara. The participants were selected through a non-random convenience sampling method. Data were collected using the “Media Tools Interview Form” developed by the researchers and analyzed through content analysis.
The findings of the study revealed that parents generally pay attention to using media tools in a safe and controlled manner and consider these tools beneficial for educational and communicative purposes. However, some parents stated that media tools might have negative effects on child development. Parents indicated that, when selecting media content for their children, they pay attention to its educational and instructive quality, age appropriateness, lack of violent elements, support for creativity, and consistency with moral values. Regarding time management, most parents believed that they effectively control their children’s media use.
