EVALUATION OF RENEWABLE ENERGY ALTERNATIVE FOR ANKARA AND SELECTION OF APPROPRIATE POWER PLANT LOCATION
Abstract
From past to present, with the increase in world population and industrialization, the need for energy has increased accordingly. Due to the high amount of energy obtained from sources such as coal, natural gas and oil; They are still an indispensable source of energy for humans. Although the energies obtained from these sources meet our needs for now, it should not be forgotten that they will be depleted in the future. In addition, these sources, which are called non-renewable energies, cause great harm to both people and the Earth due to the polluted gases they emit when burning. In order to prevent this, people should be encouraged to use renewable energy, renewable energy plants should be established in appropriate regions and existing renewable energy power plants should be increased. Energy types such as solar, wind, geothermal, hydraulic, biomass, hydrogen and wave are renewable energy types. In addition, renewable energy sources cause less CO2 and SO2 emissions than non-renewable energy sources and constantly renew themselves. Even when consumed, they can repeat themselves in a short time. Another feature of renewable energy sources that help reduce fossil fuel consumption is their environmental friendliness. Renewable energy sources are also known as Clean Energy Sources. The most important features of renewable energy sources are that they help protect the environment by reducing carbon dioxide emissions, they contribute to reducing foreign dependency in energy and increase employment because they are domestic sources, and they receive widespread and strong support from the public. In other words, renewable energy sources have all the features such as accessibility, availability and acceptability.
In this study, research has been carried out to develop our country and especially Ankara in terms of renewable energy use. First of all, the literature on the subject was reviewed. After the literature review, the potentials and installed capacities of solar, wind, hydroelectric, geothermal, hydrogen, biomass and wave energies for Turkey were examined. The advantages and disadvantages of each renewable energy have been determined. Then, the potentials of all these renewable energy types in Ankara were investigated and data were collected. The obtained data were interpreted and analyzed.
