Investigation of the effects of cold working processes on the cylinder produced from duplex stainless steel (X2CrNiMoN22-5-3) sheet
Abstract
In this study, the effects of deep drawing, joggling and bending on the microstructure and mechanical properties of the cylinder produced from duplex stainless steel (X2CrNiMoN22-5-3) sheet were investigated. Digital microscope, tensile test, and microhardness measurements were employed to analyze and determine the microstructure and mechanical properties of the samples. The results indicate that increased values of hardness, yield strength and tensile strength were obtained after the cold working processes applied. In addition, significant microstructural changes were observed, particularly in the heavily deformed areas after joggling. These findings clearly show that extra steps, i.e. post-deep drawing heat treatment, are required for the fabrication of the cylinders from duplex stainless steel sheet using cold forming processes, particularly after joggling process.
