Preparation and Characterization of Some Complexes of Titanium(IV) Containing a Mixture of Ligands and Evaluation of Their Biological Activity

Abstract

Titanium(IV) complexes containing the mixed ligands Isatinazine-IAH2 and {Benzoinsemicarbazone-BScH2, Isatinsemicarbazone-IScH2, or Isatinbis(semicarbazone)-IbScH3} were synthesized in neutral or basic media using the condensation method and microwave heating. The prepared ligands and complexes were characterized using physical and chemical methods such as titanium analysis using precipitation techniques, elemental microanalysis of CHN, determination of relative molecular weight, assessment of molar conductance, evaluation of molar refraction, analysis of infrared spectra (FT-IR), electronic spectra, magnetism, melting point, and proton ¹H NMR analysis. The ligands above generated positively charged ionic complexes of the general formula [Ti(IAH2)(ScHn)]Cl4 in a neutral medium, while complexes with the general formula [Ti(IA)(Sc)] were produced in a basic medium (where ScHn = the ligands BScH2, IScH2, or IbScH3; Sc = deprotonated BScH2, IScH2, or IBScH3 ligands; I = deprotonated IAH2 ligand). Hexacoordinate mononuclear complexes, encompassing both mononuclear and octahedral geometries, have been proposed. Finally, the biological activity of the ligands and their metal complexes was evaluated, showing excellent antibacterial activity against the selected bacterial strains in this study.
