Training of Physical Education and Sports Teacher Candidates in the Context of Special Education: Opinions of Academicians

Abstract

The aim of this study is to deeply investigate the opinions of academicians on the training of physical education and sports teachers within the context of special education. This qualitative research is designed using a phenomenological approach and focuses on the perceptions and experiences of academicians regarding the undergraduate education process of physical education and sports teacher candidates in the context of special education. Criterion sampling, a purposeful sampling method, was used to determine the study group. Data were collected using a personal information form created by the researchers, which includes demographic information of the participants, and a semi-structured interview form. Content analysis was employed for data analysis. Based on the opinions of academicians, the study findings include the definition of individuals with special needs, the issues and challenges that teacher candidates may face upon graduation, undergraduate education and practices within the context of special education, and finally, views and suggestions regarding undergraduate education in the context of special education. As a result, although academics have received theoretical and practical training for special education, they have unnecessary experiences in the application department, such as facilities, equipment, etc. It is seen that they may experience problems, and therefore they suggest that the number of courses and courses should be increased

Özel Eğitim Bağlamında Beden Eğitimi ve Spor Öğretmen Adaylarının Eğitimi: Akademisyen Görüşleri

Abstract

Bu araştırmanın amacı, akademisyenlerin özel eğitim bağlamında beden eğitimi ve spor öğretmenlerinin yetiştirilmesine yönelik görüşlerini derinlemesine incelemektir. Nitel araştırma kapsamında yürütülen bu araştırma olgubilim (fenomenoloji) deseninde tasarlanmış olup özel eğitim bağlamında beden eğitimi ve spor öğretmen adaylarının lisans eğitim sürecine ilişkin akademisyenlerin algı ve deneyimlerine odaklanmaktadır. Çalışma grubunun belirlenmesinde amaçlı örnekleme yöntemlerinden ölçüt örneklemeden faydalanılmıştır. Verilerin toplanmasında araştırmacılar tarafından oluşturulan katılımcıların demografik bilgilerinin yer alığı kişisel bilgi formu ile yarı yapılandırılmış görüşme formu kullanılmıştır. Verilerin analizinde ise içerik analizi yönteminden faydalanılmıştır. Araştırmada akademisyen görüşleri neticesinde özel gereksinimli bireylerin tanımlanması, öğretmen adaylarının mezun olduklarında karşılaşacakları sorun ve zorlanmalar, özel eğitim kapsamında lisans eğitimi ve uygulamaları ve son olarak özel eğitim bağlamında lisans eğitimine ilişkin görüş ve önerilere ilişkin bulgulara ulaşılmıştır. Sonuç olarak, akademisyenlerin, özel eğitime dair teorik ve uygulamalı eğitimler yapılmasına rağmen öğrencilerinin uygulama noktasında gerek deneyim gerekse tesis, araç gereç vb. nedenlerden sorunlar yaşayabileceklerini düşündükleri bu nedenle de ders sayılarının ve derse yönelik faaliyetlerin arttırılmasını önerdikleri görülmektedir.
