The Effect of foam roller and static stretching applications on mobilization, balance and flexibility in sedentary individuals

Öz

This study was conducted to compare the effects of foam roller and static stretching applications on mobilization, balance and flexibility in sedentary individuals who were members of a private fitness center in Istanbul province. Material and Methods. Foam roller group (FR) and static stretching group (SS) were compared for 8 weeks and their effects on mobilization, balance and flexibility skills were compared. A total of 30 male volunteers participated in the study. Participants were randomly assigned to FR (n=15) and SS (n=15). The FR group was 35.3±3.01 years, height 171.2±5.51 cm, body weight 80.1±11.03 kg, and the SS group was 36.5±2.67 years, height 163.3±7.3 cm, body weight 68.6±11.62 kg. Reach and reach, sit-up, y balance, plank and functional movement tests were taken from the participants. The FR and SS groups practiced flexibility training 2 days a week for 8 weeks. Skewness- Kurtosis analysis method and SPSS 25.0 program were used as statistical analysis. Results. When the pre and post-test data obtained from the study were analyzed; statistically significant differences were found in the measurements of reach and FMS (p>0.05) in the FR group and in the shuttle, plank and y balance (p>0.05) measurements in the SS group. No statistically significant difference was found in other parameters (p<0.05). Conclusions. As a result of this study, it was seen that foam roller applications applied to sedentary individuals had an effect on mobilization and flexibility.

Sedanter bireylerde foam roller ve statik stretching uygulamalarının mobilizasyon, denge ve esnekliğe etkisi

Öz

Bu çalışma özel bir fitness merkezinde üye olan sedanter bireylerde foam roller ve statik stretching uygulamalarının mobilizasyon, denge ve esneklik uygulamalarının etkilerinin karşılaştırılması amacıyla yapılmıştır. Foam roller grubu (FR) ve statik stretching grubu (SS) olarak 8 hafta boyunca yapılan çalışmada mobilizasyon, denge ve esneklik becerilerine olan etkileri karşılaştırılmıştır. Çalışmaya toplamda 30 gönüllü erkek birey katılmıştır. Katılımcılar rastegele yöntemle FR (n=15) ve SS (n=15) oluşmaktadır. Katılımcıların FR grubu 35.3±3.01 yıl, boy uzunluğunu 171.2±5.51 cm., vücut ağırlığı 80.1±11.03 kg., SS grubunda ise 36.5±2.67 yıl, boy uzunluğunun 163.3±7.3 cm, vücut ağırlığı 68.6±11.62 kg. bulunmuştur. Katılımcılardan uzan eriş, mekik, y denge, plank ve fonksiyonel hareket testleri alınmıştır. FR ve SS grubuna 8 hafta boyunca haftada 2 gün esneklik çalaışması uygulanmıştır. İstatiksel analiz olarak Skewness- Kurtosis analizi yöntemi ve SPSS 25.0 programı kullanılmıştır. Araştırmadan elde edilen ön ve son testler verileri incelendiğinde; FR grubunda uzan eriş ve FMS (p>0,05) ölçümlerinde ve SS grubunda ise mekik, plank ve y denge (p>0,05) ölçümlerinde istatiksel açıdan anlamlı farklılık bulunmuştur. Diğer parametrelerde istatiksel açıdan anlamlı farklılık bulunmamıştır (p<0,05). Bu araştırma sonucunda, sedanter bireyler uygulanan foam roller uygulamalarının mobilizasyon ve esnekliğe etkisi olduğu görülmüştür.
